West Vancouver is a district municipality situated on the north shore of Burrard Inlet in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, directly across the water from the City of Vancouver. West Vancouver experiences an oceanic temperate rainforest climate, shaped by its position on the southwestern slopes of the North Shore Mountains above Howe Sound and Burrard Inlet. Winters are mild and wet, with low-elevation temperatures typically ranging from around 2°C to 8°C between December and February. Rainfall dominates at sea level, while upper elevations and the slopes toward Cypress Mountain receive significant snowfall. Occasional Arctic outflow events can push temperatures well below freezing and bring biting easterly winds through the valleys and along the waterfront, sometimes accompanied by freezing rain at lower elevations. Summers in West Vancouver are warm and relatively dry, with temperatures generally ranging from 18°C to 24°C, though brief heat events can push readings higher. July and August are the driest months, and wildfire smoke from interior BC and neighbouring regions occasionally affects air quality during this period. The community is known for notable microclimates, with marine fog frequently rolling in off the water while upper slopes remain clear, and afternoon sea breezes providing a moderating influence along the shoreline.
