Winters are mild and wet, with average temperatures typically ranging from around 1°C to 8°C. The region is occasionally subject to Arctic outflow events, when cold continental air funnels westward through the Fraser Valley and mountain passes, temporarily driving temperatures below freezing and producing gusty, dry conditions that contrast sharply with the usual mild, rainy winters.
