Port Coquitlam experiences an oceanic climate, often described as temperate rainforest, shaped by its position at the eastern end of the Fraser River lowlands where the Coast Mountains begin to rise. Winters are mild and wet, with average temperatures typically ranging from around 1°C to 7°C. Snowfall occurs but is generally modest and short-lived, though the community is occasionally affected by Arctic outflow events that push cold, dry air westward through the Fraser Valley, temporarily driving temperatures well below freezing and creating icy conditions more severe than the regional norm. Freezing rain can accompany these outflow episodes.
