Parksville is a small city situated on the east coast of Vancouver Island, approximately 37 kilometres north of Nanaimo and roughly 155 kilometres north of Victoria. Parksville enjoys a mild oceanic climate, classified as a humid temperate zone moderated by its position along the sheltered eastern coast of Vancouver Island. Winters are generally mild, with average temperatures ranging from approximately 1°C to 8°C. Snowfall is relatively rare and typically light when it does occur, as the town sits in a rain shadow created by the Vancouver Island Mountain range to the west.
