Summers in Lytton are hot and dry, with the community holding a notable place in Canadian climate history as the location where Canada's all-time record high temperature of 49.6°C was recorded during the extreme heat event of June 2021. Typical summer daytime highs range from the low to mid-30s°C, with very little precipitation during the season. The surrounding landscape of dry grasslands and ponderosa pine forests makes the area highly susceptible to wildfire activity, and smoke from regional fires frequently affects air quality during July and August.
