Strata Management (Professional)
What is Strata Management (Professional) in British Columbia?
General information only — not legal, tax, financial, or real-estate advice. Verify with a licensed BC professional before acting.
Professional strata management refers to a licensed brokerage engaged by a strata corporation to provide administrative, financial and, where retained, on-site management services. In BC, strata management brokerages and licensees are regulated by the BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) under the Real Estate Services Act, SBC 2004, c. 42. Typical services include collecting strata fees, paying invoices, preparing financial statements, maintaining records, holding meetings and coordinating repairs. A strata may be professionally managed or self-managed. The contract between the strata and the manager is a Strata Management Agreement — its terms and termination provisions should be reviewed by the strata council with the assistance of counsel where appropriate.
