Freehold Property

Freehold (also called fee simple) is the most complete form of property ownership in BC — the owner holds both the building and the land it sits on, indefinitely, subject only to government rights (taxes, expropriation), zoning, and any registered charges on title (mortgages, easements, covenants). Most detached houses in BC are freehold. Compare with leasehold (the building is owned but the land is leased, e.g. UBC, some First Nations land) and strata (a strata lot plus a share of common property).
